On the evening of Tuesday 8 March, we are organising a trip to the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge. This trip is open to Flamsteed members only, but we may be able to accommodate guests, depending on demand.

Although the Institute of Cambridge is primarily a research department, they have a variety of public education and outreach activities run by a dedicated outreach team and enthusiastic volunteers from among their students, staff and faculty. A donation of £2 per attendee is required, to be paid at the venue on the day. All of the proceeds go directly to the student volunteers, without whom the evening visits wouldn’t be possible.

The visit will begin at 7pm with a short talk on a current topic in astronomy, usually lasting about 30 minutes with time for questions from the group. This is followed by an opportunity to look through the historical Northumberland and Thorrowgood telescopes if the weather is clear. If the weather is not great, we can still have a tour of the historic telescope on site. Even with observing, the whole visit will usually last about 1.5 hours.

It will be necessary to BOOK A PLACE if you are interested in attending.

Please do not book a place on this event if you are not a member of the society. Your booking will be cancelled if your name does not appear on our membership database.
