We are delighted to announce that we have been offered a return visit to the RMG LTE store on the afternoon of Friday February 3rd. Many of you will remember our last visit which was so enjoyable in 2013 (click here for the meeting report). LTE holds the fabulous RMG collection of artworks, fabric, and paper which includes the globes, both celestial and terrestrial.
We are greatly indebted to the Store Manager Sarah Kmosena, to Megan Barford (Curator of Cartography), and to Paul Cook (Paper Conservator: Preservation & Globe Specialist). Sarah will give us a general tour of the store, including the art and fabric collections for about 30 minutes, then Megan and Paul will show us the globe collection etc for another 30 minutes.
We can take two groups each of maximum 15 people. The first group will start at 13:15 and end at 14:15. The second group will start at 14:45 and end at 15:45.
If you would like to come please click on the “book now” icon above, and then choose which of the two sessions that you’d like to book on. We are limited to 30 people in total. Advance booking is essential.
The LTE store is located in the general area of Blackwall Lane SE10. It is about 20 minutes’ walk from the National Maritime Museum. Buses 188 and 422 run on Blackwall Lane from North Greenwich Station (Jubilee Line). The 188 also passes Cutty Sark Station (DLR). Detailed directions will be issued to participants nearer the date.
Parking on site at LTE is very limited, so nearer the date when we know better who wants to come, we’ll be asking if you plan to drive or use public transport.
