October 14, 2013 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Dr Stuart Clark We are delighted to welcome Dr Stuart Clark back to the Flamsteed. Stuart will be giving us a talk about his latest book, “The Day without Yesterday”, which is based on the story of Albert Einstein and Georges Lemaitre. Lemaitre was the first person to propose a theory of the expansion of the Universe, a theory he discovered buried in the maths of the theory of general relativity, meaning that there must have been a moment when the universe came into existence… a day without yesterday.

Stuart Clark is a widely read astronomy journalist. His career is devoted to presenting the complex world of astronomy to the general public. Stuart holds a first class honours degree and a PhD in astrophysics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a former Vice Chair of the Association of British Science Writers. The Independent newspaper placed him alongside Stephen Hawking and the Astronomer Royal, Professor Sir Martin Rees, as one of the ‘stars’ of British astrophysics teaching.

Currently he divides his time between writing books and, in his capacity of cosmology consultant, writing articles for New Scientist. He also writes for the European Space Agency where he was Senior Editor for Space Science for some time.
