THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED AND THE WAITING LIST IS CLOSED
During the summer months, we run several public solar viewing sessions at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. These sessions prove to be extremely popular with visitors. Last season, over 3,000 members of the public attended the 6 public solar viewing sessions that we were able to run.
All of these sessions are run by Flamsteed volunteers, and they wouldn’t take place without the support of our membership. We are always looking for new people to get involved, so we are running this training session to encourage members to get involved in our solar viewing events. As a further incentive to come along on the evening, ROG astronomer Brendan Owens will be giving us a special talk about the Sun and a brief planetarium show.
Following this, we will look at the solar telescopes that we use at the ROG, and take people through the set-up procedures and details on how we run the events. We will then look at our plans for the summer solar viewing sessions.
If you are an existing solar viewing volunteer, you are encouraged to attend, so that you understand our plans for the solar viewing season. New volunteers would, of course, be most welcome to attend.
So that we have an idea of numbers, we’d be grateful if you could book your place to attend the event, by clicking on the “book now” link.
We expect the event to last for about 2 hours in total, starting at 7pm sharp.
THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO MEMBERS OF THE FLAMSTEED ASTRONOMY SOCIETY ONLY.
Please do not book a place on this event if you are not a member of the society. Your booking will be cancelled if your name does not appear on our membership database.
