THIS EVENT IS CONFIRMED ON
Once again, we will be running a Perseid Meteor Watch session at Cudham in Kent. This event will be on Thursday 11th August.
The maximum of Perseid activity is expected between 11-14 August 2016. Though our event won’t be during the peak of activity (that will be on the 12th), any later day and the Moon is just far too bright. Even on the 11th, the Moon is waxing gibbous, 60% illuminated and doesn’t set until after midnight.
You usually start seeing meteors an hour or so before midnight, with the radiant near the Double Cluster in Perseus climbing higher in the sky throughout the night.
Location details can be found at the following link: http://www.flamsteed.org.uk/observing/stargazing-events/cudham-stargazing/
Cudham is near Biggin Hill in Kent and has darker skies than those found in South-East London. There is plenty of parking (PLEASE USE THE BLACKSMITH’S ARMS CAR PARK, NOT THE RECREATION GROUND CAR PARK, AS THIS IS LOCKED AT 11PM).
The Perseids tend to strengthen in number after midnight. We will start the session at 10pm and continue for as long as people are happy to stay.
