Flamsteed History of Astronomy Group Meeting.
Eddy Yeadon has kindly agreed to give a talk on “The Hubble Space Telescope: Restoring the Image”.
The talk will cover the design and construction of the HST Optical Telescope Assembly as well as what went wrong during testing. The programme to correct severe spherical aberration from the primary mirror and restore the instrument to full performance will be described in detail. A short explanation of the diffraction theory of aberrations will be included.
