This is the inaugural meeting of the Flamsteed History of Astronomy special interest group.
The main purpose of the meeting will be to discuss ideas and preferences for the activities of the group, and talk about next steps. We would also hope to include some cerebral entertainment in the form of a short talk! A full agenda and access directions will be issued nearer the date. It hasn’t been possible to schedule an earlier date due to other events and the Easter holiday period.
We’ve heard from members with a wide range of interests and experience.
So far people have mentioned the following subjects – Vintage telescopes (e.g. Grubb), Norman Lockyer, Tycho Brahe, Nineteenth Century astronomy, Archeo-astronomy 10,000 to 2,000 BC, Life of Charles Messier, Jeremiah Horrocks, Isaac Newton, History of Navigation, Astronomical instruments, RMG Collection, Science Museum Reserve Collection, Celestial Mechanics in the 17th and 18th Centuries.
Do let us know if you want to be kept informed or have any further ideas for the activities of the group or expertise to share.
