THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO POOR WEATHER
As our usual venue on Blackheath will be unavailable, due to preparations for the London Marathon, we have decided to run our April observing event at the Cudham Recreation Ground in Kent. This is our usual venue for meteor watch sessions. Cudham is near Biggin Hill in Kent and has darker skies than those found in South-East London. As the event coincides with the active period of the Lyrids meteor shower, we may be able to see some meteors during this observing event, as well as good views of Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and (later in the evening) Saturn. We will also be targeting fainter objects in the night sky.
The event will be held on Saturday 25 April. We plan to start the observing session at 8pm, but I’m sure that a few people will get there early to have a drink in the excellent Blacksmith’s Arms.
Location details can be found at the following link: http://www.flamsteed.org.uk/observing/stargazing-events/cudham-stargazing/
There is plenty of parking in the car park of the Blacksmith’s Arms, but we would ask that you go and buy a drink in the pub if you use the car park. The recreation ground car park is often locked after dark, so it’s not recommended that you use this car park.
