Professor Carl Murray of Queen Mary College, London will be giving us an update on the Cassini mission to Saturn. Carl is a member of the Cassini Imaging Team and he has been visiting us regularly to talk about the discoveries made by this most spectacular of space missions. His talks are always entrancing.
Carl is interested in all aspects of the dynamics of planetary systems, from the orbital evolution of dust particles to the stability of planetary orbits. His research in recent years has been dominated by work on Saturn’s rings and their gravitational interaction with the small natural satellites orbiting nearby. In particular he has been fascinated by Saturn’s F ring as he works with colleagues to understand its bizarre appearance.
