Blackheath Stargazing – Friday 4 April 2014 – CANCELLED

April 4, 2014 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Blackheath Stargazing

Blackheath Stargazing

DUE TO POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

We are intending to run a Blackheath “Stargazing” session on Friday 4 April from 9pm until around 11pm. As with all observing activities, we are dependent on weather conditions, and a go/no-go message will be sent at around 6pm on the day of the event.

As the Winter Constellations begin to fade away we will have a selection of binaries, clusters and if we are lucky the odd galaxy to see. There will be several galaxies such as M81 and M82 high up on the Meridian around 10pm. This will afford us the best chance to see them from Blackheath as the sky will be at its darkest.

Early in the evening Jupiter will still be in view as will the setting crescent of the Moon. From around 10pm Mars will have joined the party and will be high enough to provide good views as it is only a few days from opposition and will be 99.9% illuminated.

So we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Bring a scope if you can, if not just turn up for a look.

The plan is to meet on Blackheath, just north of Talbot Place, which is a right turn off Goffers Road as you head towards Shooters Hill Road. Talbot Place is a cul-de-sac. A map of the site can be found here.

No booking is needed, and all are welcome.

We will send a go/no-go message via Twitter, e-mail and text message (for subscribers), after checking the weather conditions and forecast.

Blackheath is quite exposed, so please remember to wrap up warm.

If you have any questions about the Blackheath Stargazing Session, then please contact us.
