THIS EVENT IS CONFIRMED ON
Our next scheduled observing event will take place on Saturday 14 May.
The event is planned to begin at the later time of 8.30pm as it is getting lighter. At this time, Jupiter will be due south with the 60% illuminated Moon, so plenty to see even during twilight. As the night progresses, some familiar sights will return now that the Winter Constellations are setting. From around 9.30pm in the west will be the multi-coloured Beehive Cluster M44, the South East will offer the jewel like Hercules Cluster M13 and going further East the Ring Nebula M57 becomes visible as the Summer Triangle of Vega, Altair and Deneb begins to rise.
Together with many other sites we look forward to seeing of many of you there as possible. Please bring a telescope if you can, the more the merrier! If not there should be at least three scopes available to take you on a tour of the sky.
Blackheath is quite exposed and although the forecast is for a pleasant 10 degrees, please bring a coat!
We will meet at our usual spot just north of Talbot Place at 8.30pm. Talbot Place is the first left off Goffers Road after the Tea Hut. Parking is free after 6.30. A map of the site can be found here – http://www.flamsteed.org.uk/observing/stargazing-events/blackheath-stargazing/ .
