Blackheath Observing – Saturday 1 August – CONFIRMED ON

August 1, 2015 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Blackheath Stargazing

Blackheath Observing

THIS EVENT IS CONFIRMED ON

We are planning an observing session at our usual spot on Blackheath this Saturday from 9.00pm. At the moment the weather looks like it will be a little cloudy initially, then clearing.

After darkness has fallen, there will be a number of objects to view. Early in the evening we will have the opportunity to view Saturn. As it becomes darker the Summer Triangle comprising Vega, Deneb and Altair will be overhead. This area of the sky offers many objects to view such as the colourful double of Albireo; M57, the Ring Nebula; M27, The Dumbbell Nebula; and M13, The Hercules Cluster to name just a few. Later the almost full Moon will come into view to add additional interest.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Bring a scope if you can, if not just turn up for a look. There will be other scopes available.

Blackheath is quite exposed, but the evening promises to be pleasantly warm with little wind, so woolly hats may be left at home!

The plan is to meet on Blackheath, just north of Talbot Place at 9pm. Talbot Place is a right turn off Goffers Road as you head towards Shooters Hill Road or the first left after the Tea Hut. Talbot Place is a cul-de-sac, where free parking is available from 6.30pm. A map of the site can be found here – http://www.flamsteed.org.uk/observing/stargazing-events/blackheath-stargazing/ .
